The Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program is a state-run program that allows patients with certain medical conditions to access medical marijuana as a treatment option. The program was established in 2016 through the passage of the Medical Marijuana Act, which was signed into law by Governor Tom Wolf.

To be eligible for the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Program, individuals must be residents of the state and have one of the following conditions:

  • Cancer

  • Epilepsy

  • HIV/AIDS

  • Multiple sclerosis

  • Neurodegenerative diseases (such as Parkinson's disease)

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • Severe chronic or intractable pain

  • Sickle cell anemia

Patients must also have a recommendation from a licensed healthcare professional and register with the program in order to receive a medical marijuana card. Once they have a card, patients can purchase medical marijuana from state-licensed dispensaries.
